I was late writing this week. I have been busy, but also napping a whole lot. While I would love to winter like other mammals; the human mammal does not always have that choice and quite often is shamed for wintering. What is wintering? Slowing down the pace, resting like the earth over the winter, instead we keep on the same treadmill year-round.
I do not hide the fact I deal with anxiety and Seasonal Affective Disorder but it is draining even with all the helpers. I over committed myself, thinking I had to do it all or be less than others who do so much. When that happens, my body rebels. Sleeping more, stiffness in the joints, neck and even chest pain. Heartburn and reflux are triggered by stress and it was rough this week. At my age you never know if it is
a heart attack or heartburn.
It was the perfect opportunity to try out the new service in Kennetcook, The Community Pharmacy Care Clinic at the Guardian. It was great to talk to someone to not only alleviate the symptoms, but to also alleviate fears. I learned about the meds I take and if they interact positively, negatively or not at all. They do not replace a doctor’s care, but they are wonderful to have available for the simple things.
We feel so much deeper at this time. We feel loss and loneliness at a super charged level, we feel joy in our families and for those with children, it can be a wonderful time. Their innocence is the best gift. We feel the financial struggle so much deeper, and Christmas has been made to be about the gifts. I am guilty of that with my kids, when in reality, we remember the fun things we did.
This weekend past was my busiest. I enjoy the tree lightings as Town Crier, the sense of community is
uplifting and I had three wonderful ones. I will help peel potatoes for the free senior’s dinner and help with singing and whatever needs done on that day. It only costs a bit of time. I will likely need a long nap the next day, I can’t keep up with these other seniors.
I will enjoy singing with the Noel choir, because we have some awesome music and a skit planned for Christmas Eve. And before that, we will have an old-fashioned carol service. I LOVE the music this time of year. I will have fun with friends in Kennetcook next weekend and my last commitment, will be one that touches my heart. I did one shift at the Angel for Remembrance tree for the Colchester East Hants Hospice in the mall and have one more this coming week. If you are in town, stop by and make a donation. Your gift will be passed on to others feeling grief, and who knows, you may find someone to help you with yours.
Have a great week and find your joy in the simple things.
